Much better than I expected it to be!!
27/03/2013 18:54:00Have only saved and transferred 100 odd slides thus far but once you get to know which buttons to press the operation is really very simple! It's also a very rewarding process! Some of my slides are over 50 years old and the colour and 'crispness' is truely remarkable. Thank you ION. PS. Thank you My Smart Buy also for such prompt service in replacing the faulty scanner I was originally sent!!
Thank you for taking the time to review this item and we hope you choose to shop with us again in the near future.

Finally got round to using it after decorating. Great piece of kit and simple to use, and it is simplicity itself to transfer them to my flash drive with the usb cable provided. Images of my very old slides are very good. I am more than happy with the price a paid for a compact and sturdy piece of equipment with the plus of no p&p.

Have not used it but it seems good

This product is very quick to use, about two seconds per slide. I've done the first 750 slides in my collection over a period of two days. The scan is of very acceptable quality. The great advantage it has over other slide scanners I have seen/used is that it has stack loading which makes for a fast process. The greatest part of the process is cleanliness - it is essential to clean the scanner plate before you start and regularly (say every three or four films) as you go along. A cleaning tool is provided for this. It is also important to clean both sides of every slide! Even when stored in slide boxes they still get dusty! I process one film at a time and stored them on the PC one film to a folder. Don't forget to note the date off the slides!! - I included it in the folder name. The scanner has exposure and colour settings but I found these too hard to mess with, mainly because such matters cannot be viewed adequately on the viewing screen which is of limited quality, perfectly adequate for device control purposes but no good at all for fine detail. It is much easier to use the standard settings and then Photoshop (or similar) the resulting file. In fact I've never seen my slides look better! The slide shute is built to tight tolerances. It was perfect for Kodachrome slides. I had a film of Agfa slides and the frames were a fraction bigger and would not go through without cutting a bit off - cut off the top edge when viewing the slide then load so the bottom is tight to the shute. I also had a film that I had put into thin plastic frames and these were a bit thick and would only go through with difficulty. The thick heavy frames that I have a few of will not go through at all and will have to be unframed. I found it easiest to record the pictures to the data chip provided and take that to the PC to load onto disk. It is possible to download directly from the scanner chip. The scanner reduces the picture size very slightly to ensure that there are no furry edges to the resulting picture so a little bit of the original picture is lost. I haven't tried the scanner yet with film or negatives but I've no doubt the scan quality will be similar to 35mm slides. All the required bits are provided to do this. Excellent product, no hesitation in recommending it.

I have about 20,000 slides which I am planning to digitise by scanning in and saving on an external hard drive. This scanner is easy to use and produces good quality JPEG files of just over 2Mb each. Unfortunately my Fujichrome plastic mounts do not go through the multi-stacker feeder device so I have to manually load them in the 4-slide loader; this is still pretty quick and easy, however, and at around 2 to 3 seconds per slide to scan and save, it does the job. Of course, as some slides are in portrait orientation these have to be rotated before scanning as they need to be landscape format for the scan, but this is a small overhead. I have timed the whole process, and 100 slides take 45 to 50 minutes to deal with in their entirety - orientate, load, scan in, save, (in batches of 100), transport the SD card to the PC, copy in, re-orientate (i.e. rotate portrait format files back from their landscape scan position), and back-up. I've done about 1400 slides so far and only once has the scanner mysteriously moved the image down and put a black bar across the top - rescanning it worked fine. Every now and again I find that with a darkish slide with a small brighter section, the lighter section has burnt out a bit and detail is lost. But overall, a very good performance. It's a distinct advantage to be able to scan away from the PC straight to an SD card, and for just over £100 I'd recommend this. I hope it is still working as well after another 19,000 slides.

Very good and easy to use

Slightly difficult to follow instructions but once understood the scanner is first class. Not seen the slides for years and at a rate of one slide every 5 seconds you soon stir the memories!

Excellent product. Works exactly as advertised.

I spent a lot of time dithering about buying this product as for every 3 or 4 good reviews there was one very bad one! However I am VERY pleased with it. My project is to digitise 30 year old Kodak slides which were originally taken on an OM10. I just 'scan' the pictures on the ION and edit them using Picassa and I am very pleased with the results. I have also had some good results from negatives. Unlike some reviewers, I have found the rapid slide feeder easy to use and much quicker than the slide holder
Cheltenham
I have not used it suffieiently yet to judge performance. My initial reaction is that it is good, but the sequence of button-pressing for straight copying is a bit complicated and it is easy to make a mistake.
London
Pretty quick to scan slides and reasonable quality. The controls are not very intuitive
Exeter
Very pleased with this product so far does what it says on the box and very easy to operate. We are now viewing pictures taken over 40 years ago very nostalgic Thank you

Extremely easy to use.

My old scanner did not seem to work with Windows 7 so I decided to change to this one. Although it took a little time to work out how to manipulate the various settings using the buttons, once I had found out how to adjust colour and brightness I was very pleased with the results. The rapid slide feeder makes what had been a tedious process on my old scanner a simple and quick job. The converted slides are stored on the included SD card so I do not need to be at my computer and I can transfer them with ease when it is convenient. Overall I am delighted to have made this choice.
York
can only reproduce the old films bearing in mind the quality of old film and cameras.
Wetherby
A bit expensive but 9 mega pixel yields better pics. Soundly made and performs intended functions well. Only slight niggles are multiple slide feeder doesn't work very well and viewing screen location could be better angled for ease of viewing (I find it necessary to tilt the unit to see the screen ok). Overall I think £75 would have been a better price than the £109 charged.
Edinburgh
It does what it claims at a reasonable price but the illumination system is prone to contamination with bits and pieces which have to be removed regularly.
Wotton-under-Edge
Very easy to use - quality of output disappointing - but as good as other scanners I have used, and much easier to use. Changing photo colour, brightness on device not easy - much easier on PC. Very small and great to be able to use it stand alone.
Wadebridge
An excellent bit of kit, so much better in every way than the Ohnar Slide/Film Copier. It is not cheap, but first results are good.

Product arrived very quickly and plug and use. No set-up needed. Great.

So far so good!! I cant believe how quick this thing is! I scanned over 100 slides within an hour and an now eager for my father-in-law to give me some more to scan! The rapid slide feeder is a god-send and apart from sticking a few times, is making this whole process an awful lot easier. Instead of this job being one to do when I have a few spare minutes, it is turning into one that I am really looking forward to doing! Fabulous item and well worth the money!
London
easy to use, better quaility pictures than I expected from slides over 40 years old!
Norwich
The description did not make it clear that it came complete with a rapid feeder, hence I bought an additional one !!!

this is so easy to use and you get great results. I am seeing photographs that I have not seen in many a year. worth every penny. will more than pay for it self in a very short while.
Maidenhead
Scanned image is good when viewed on the PC, but the picture shown on the scanner's screen is poor.
