Eckman 45cc Petrol Chainsaw
Description
The Eckman Electric Chainsaw combines an impressive 2.2kw high-torque motor with an extra long 18" (46cm) "low kickback" Oregon chain and bar to ensure a super powerful and safe performance.
This electric chainsaw is incredibly easy to start (just flick a switch and away you go) and is just as powerful as petrol chainsaws - capable of cutting through even huge 16” (41cm) diameter logs like a hot knife through butter!
Easy chain tensioning using the very latest in SDS “tool-less” technology (rather than having to muck around with a fiddly screwdriver), super-fast safety braking in the event of “kickback” (stops the chain in 0.15 of a second!), automatic chain oil lubrication and ultra low vibration all add up to make this a very safe, convenient and comfortable chainsaw to use.
Manufactured to the very highest European electrical safety standards.

I admit to being a little guarded over this item initially, but it is absolutely AMAZING! It's light, really quiet and very powerful. We can't believe the price… Love the clutch with the emergency stop function. Best of all the tool-less chain tensioner is astounding. I know from experience what a fiddle it is to be constantly adjusting the chain- it's a marvelous piece of kit - easily worth £199.99 in my opinion

Sturdy and excellent value for money
25/02/2013 11:06:00To help lighten the weight the saw makes extensive use of plastics for the housing, though it isn't 'plasticky' - it's sturdily constructed.
As the review is about the saw itself, I've awarded it five stars, though the instructions for fitting the chain and blade are not sufficiently clear, but it would be churlish to knock a star off because the instructions are lacking in detail.
I think that anyone who lacks practical and mechanical skills will struggle with this.
For example, there's no mention of the need to remove the plastic cover or to first slacken off the chain tensioner, nor the need to hold the blade and saw in an upright position while fitting the chain and blade.
The chances of fitting the chain and blade with the saw in a horizontal position are slim to nil.
I couldn’t fit the chain and blade to the drive sprocket without first removing the drive sprocket and chain clamp, then with the chain around the blade, fitting the blade over the chain clamp shaft and the drive sprocket simultaneously.
It helps if two people are on hand to perform the operation - one to hold the saw, the other to fit the chain. If you follow these instructions based on my own experiences, it shouldn’t take more than ten minutes or so to fit the chain. Here’s how to do it:
Slacken off the ‘lock-knob’ in the centre of the ‘chain tensioning ring’ then turn the chain tensioning ring anti-clockwise, which will ensure that there is enough slack to enable you to fit the chain around the drive sprocket when you get to that stage.
Remove the lock knob by unscrewing it anti-clockwise and place it aside. Remove the plastic cover, held in place by one screw. (Don’t lose it!).
Remove the drive sprocket retaining ‘E’ clip (rather like a small circlip), using a small screwdriver or tip of a Stanley knife, again being careful not to lose it! Remove the washer and chain-drive sprocket, putting it aside.
Remove the circular chain clamp (just pull it off with your fingers), then get an assistant to stand the saw in an upright position and hold it there while you fit the chain, blade, chain clamp and drive sprocket in one go.
Hold the blade upright with the nose end at the top and drape the chain around the nose of the blade making sure the chain is in the correct direction as shown on the Oregon blade, engaging the chain with the little drive ‘wheels’ at the nose end of the blade.
Fit the blade over the chain clamp shaft and put the chain on the drive sprocket – if it won’t fit, the tension is too tight, so you’ll have to temporarily refit the plastic cover and slacken off the chain tensioning ring.
When you’ve managed to fit the chain on the sprocket and refitted the sprocket, fit the washer and ‘E’ clip, pressing the clip back into position in its groove with a pair of pliers. Move the chain around the blade with your fingers to make sure it will revolve freely on the drive sprocket and around the blade. If you are happy with it, refit the plastic cover and check and set the tension of the chain, as per the instructions.
Don’t run the chainsaw until you’ve filled the oil reservoir. The oil is just to lubricate the chain and bar etc in use.(Chain saw oil is sticky so stays on the chain longer).
These notes might sound complicated but they won't with the saw in front of you. What's complicates the task is the sketchy information in the booklet.
Don't let this put you off buying the saw - it's a great buy and I'd be happy to recommned it to other prospective purchasers.
I haven't yet used the saw other than to test it, but it's evident that it's very powerful and well up to the task as shown in the video.
We have passed your comments regarding improving the ease of use and the instruction manual on to the manufacturer’s and we greatly appreciate your input.

Surprisingly powerful, relatively quiet and easy to handle.
15/10/2012 13:18:00Need to know to hold the bar vertically to fit chain to sprocket. No mention or explanation of how to remove cover plate.
Northampton
Seems sturdy enough, but not put to much use as yet.

Very good
07/06/2012 15:15:00A little heavier than I thought it would be, plus had problems trying to fit the chain it seemed to be to small had to take it to my friendly workshop to be fitted.

just started to ues the chainsaw found it difficult to find the right tension for it to hold chain, keeps comeing off.

Performs well and seems to be good value for money. It would be helpful if the operation of the chain tensioning system was explained in the handbook to assist initial assembly and I've yet to discover what the red and grean indicator lights are for! The hand guard/chain brake is perhapse a little too sensative, it is triggered by the lightest touch which can be annoying.
Scunthorpe
this chain saw performance is equal,if not better than my previous chain saw,a petrol powered model.
Attlebourough
If the machine had the correct instructions it might have been easier to set up. The main problem was installing the chain onto the machine. After about an hour over 3 days plus 3 telephone calls the chain suddenly fitted.
Frinton-on-Sea
plenty of power, and cut through large logs with ease.

Fast Delivery. After several hours and 2 phone calls to helpline (very polite but sadly did not advance my understanding apart from telling me the instructions were incorrect. The operatives had seen the saw but not tried to assemble it!) I eventually assembled the saw. It involved having the blade at almost 90 degrees to the final position in order to get the chain around both the blade and the drive socketand then rotating to final position. Once up and running seems to work very well - have used for about 3 hours so far. REMEMBER TO ENSURE CHAIN OIL IS KEPT TOPPED UP - THESE TOOLS BURN OUT IN NO TIME WITHOUT CHAIN OIL! Chain seems to retain its tautness wihtout need for continuous tightening,

Excellent product. No faults so far !! Maybe the instruction photos in booklet could be enlarged a little.

I was a litle surprised how powerful this machine is. It is very well made and able to do all i want it to.
Hornchurch
The chain saw itself seems very good once assembled. The only problem is that the instructions for fitting the chain initially are a little inadequate. Once you fathom out how to do it it is actually very easy.

I was very pleased with the prompt delivery. It is an excellent saw.

Good quality product, will know more after a few months use. Problem with fitting of chain and guide bar. Followed instructions but the chain was slightly too short to fit over sprocket. Had to remove circlip and washer then refit with chain in place, a bit fiddly. Might be difficult for a non-mechanical person. Should be ok once chain has stretched.Powerful in use, feels safe.

Q&As
Back to TopSo, if you used the chainsaw for 1 hour, the calculation would be: (2200 x 1) ÷1000 = 2.2kWh.
To find out how much this will cost per hour, you will need to find out how much your energy supplier charges. But on average, the chainsaw will cost you approx. 24p per hour to run.
